1st French lesson

Welcome to the first French lesson on Schoolbulance!

Here, you will learn French from the basics. If you haven’t already did that, go read my guide on ”How to learn a foreign language”: it will help you in the process. Now, let’s start!

The verb ”être”: ”to be”

Present tense

je suis

tu es

il est

elle est

on est

nous sommes

vous êtes

ils sont

elle sont

The verb ”avoir”: ”to have”

Present tense

J’ai

tu as

il a

elle a

on a

nous avons

vous avez

ils ont

elles sont

So, let’s examine them. There are eight subjective pronouns:

Je = I

Tu = you

Il = he/it

On = It’s a general pronoun, it is impersonal

Elle = she

Nous = we

Vous = you (plural)

Ils = they (males)

Elles = they (females)

The first verb is like ”I am, you are…”, while the second one is like ”I have, you have….”.

Here are some examples with them:

Tu es très belle = ”You are really beautiful”

Il a dix ans = ”He is ten years old”

Nous avons un petit chien = ”We have a little dog”

On a deux yeux = ”We have two eyes”

”Couleurs”: ”colours”

”Nombres”: ”numbers”

”Salutations”: ”greetings”

Salut! = Hi! / Hello!

Bonjour! = Good morning!

Bonsoir! = Good evening!

Bonne nuit! = Good night!

Bon après-midi! = Good afternoon!

Au revoir! = Good bye! / Bye!

à bientôt! = see you soon!

à demain! = see you tomorrow!

”Comment se présenter”: ”how to introduce yourself”

Here’s an easy guide to follow:

  1. Je m’appelle …….. = My name is ……..
  2. J’ai ……….. ans = I’m …….. years old
  3. Je suis de …….. = I’m from (city name).

For now they’ll be enough.

”Jours, saisons, mois”: ”Days, seasons, months”

Conclusions

Sooooo…. for today it’s all. Remember to memorize all these things: you have to write them multiple times until you know them perfectly. Then you have to work on your pronounciation: I’ll list some videos that will help you, but you can also use Reverso o Google translator. If you want, you can ask some friends or relatives to help you: they would have to ask you (for example) ”Which colour is that?” and you”ll answer. Even though you’re answer isn’t correct, repeating this process a lot of times will really make you memorize all these things.

And don’t forget to be proud of yourself.
